About the Role:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Delivery and Regeneration, Scientist (I-II), plays an important role in pipeline production, development of delivery technologies for genetic bioengineering, and optimization of plant transformation efficiency.
The ideal candidate will exhibit a depth of experience that includes the following competencies and skills.
Key Competencies:
- Demonstrates broad knowledge of plant tissue culture and plant regeneration to support transformation in multiple crop species
- Coordinates within transformation facility and staff, including protocol development, SOPs, quality control, data archival, analysis of results and troubleshooting
- Serves as a technical expert as an effective communicator of scientific research
- Provides intellectual guidance to research associates and assistants working in the area of plant tissue culture and transformation
- Works closely with both internal teams and external collaborators to build state-of-the-art organizational capabilities through his/her experience and professional network
- Demonstrates accountability, responsibility and integrity in every aspect of professional life at Elo Life Systems, while upholding Company Values
The Successful Applicant
- Doctoral degree (Ph. D.) or equivalent in plant biology or a related field and 3 years or more of technical experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least 2 years of experience in a hands-on tissue culture/crop transformation setting
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and transform major and specialty crops through designing creative technical solutions
- Expertise in operation of various microscopy and imaging instruments
- Ability to create and implement high quality innovative concepts for R&D development and execution
- Ability to work in a matrix team environment encompassing multiple disciplines
- Proficiency in written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated expertise in using morphogenic genes to improve plant transformation efficiency is desirable
- Ability to perform molecular biology techniques, including cloning, DNA extraction, RNA extraction and qPCR is preferred
- Experience with protoplast regeneration is preferred
- Hands-on experience with sugar beet transformation is preferred
